Women's Guild Endowed Chair in Women's Health: Blazing Trails for Women

We are 50 years behind in our knowledge about optimal screening, diagnosis, and treatment regimens for heart disease in women compared to what we know about heart disease in men. The Women's Heart Center is dedicated to closing this unacceptable knowledge gap. - C. Noel Bairey Merz, MD, FACC, FAHA Women's Guild Chair in Women's Health

Early in her career, C. Noel Bairey Merz, MD, saw something that had eluded many other doctors and researchers: Heart disease impacts women differently than men. She set out to do something about this blind spot, and Women’s Guild stepped up to help.

We established a base of ongoing support for Dr. Bairey Merz’s research—the Women’s Guild Endowed Chair in Women’s Health. As the inaugural holder of this chair and director of the Barbra Streisand Women's Heart Center at the Cedars-Sinai Heart Institute, Dr. Bairey Merz is a national leader in the effort to close the knowledge gap about heart disease in women. She and her colleagues are doing this through research, through the care they provide, and through programs that teach women and healthcare providers about heart health.
