Victoria Reggie Kennedy Honored at Annual Luncheon
David Meister Fashion Show Delights Guests
At the Women’s Guild annual membership luncheon in May 2013, Victoria Reggie Kennedy received the Women’s Guild Woman of the 21st Century Award for her role as an advocate for healthcare and for her stance against gun violence. She is the widow of longtime United States Senator Ted Kennedy of Massachusetts. Political consultant Robert Shrum — husband of board member Marylouise Oates — moderated a candid question-and-answer session with Kennedy, an attorney and the co-founder of the Edward M. Kennedy Institute for the United States Senate. Discussing her husband’s passion for healthcare reform, Kennedy said, “Standing behind President Obama at the signing of the Affordable Care Act was one of the most exhilarating moments of my life.”
Women’s Guild President Lorette Gross presented the 2013 Evelyn Clayburgh Award for distinguished service to Hella Hershson, Women’s Guild’s first executive vice president. “She’s so good, because she does such good,” said Gross.
Gina Furth served as executive chair of the elegant affair, which was co-chaired by Daniele Worth Ochoa and Linda Zale. The event also featured fashion designer David Meister, who spoke about summer fashion trends and delighted guests with highlights from his spring/summer 2013 collection.
